Hi!

Welcome to my blog, where I share everything I find interesting and places I enjoyed exploring.

Solstice Canyon

Solstice Canyon

You know, I would have written this post sooner but I discovered Victoria on Amazon Prime, then I discovered The White Queen, and then I watched three documentaries on the London Tower...needless to say, it's been killing my blog and gym time.

Solstice Canyon was one of the quickest but most scenic hikes I've done. About 2 miles round trip (there are side trails you can add on to make this hike longer), this hike takes you to the remnants of two houses lost in Wild Fires and ends at a small waterfall. The trail is easy, no real increase in elevation and no rocks to climbs around, I barely broke a sweat!

Growing up in Southern California for the majority of my life, Wild Fires are expected pretty much every year just like you would except snow in the North. The hot summers and constant drought, it's the perfect environment for fires. I remember in 2004, when I was living in San Diego, the fire was so huge, it looked like a ring of fire was encompassing all of San Diego. The skies were red for a week, people were wearing dust masks when they had to go outside, you couldn't turn on your AC unless you wanted to be pummeled with ash.

With that being said, I've been very lucky to have not experience this first hand, or had someone I know go through it. Walking around on the foundation of these former houses, you truly feel how devastating it can be. I was walking in what used to be someone's home. I could see where their kitchen was, their bathroom, this was where they made their memories, and just like that, it was gone. The main house you walk around, the Roberts Ranch House, if you look at photos from when it was still around, it was gorgeous, it makes me sad to see such a beautiful architecture masterpiece gone forever.

I thought I could do more than one hike a month, but I guess I never realized how busy my schedule is. If I can continue on this one hike a month streak, I'll be happy. Now to figure out where my next hike will be. Stay tuned to find out!
