I flew to San Francisco just for this.

I'm not sure if you've gotten to understand my love of these art installations yet. If you haven't, how determined I was to got to the Color Factory should convey my adoration for these immersive works of art.

I heard about the Color Factory back in August, I couldn't find tickets because they had already been sold out for weeks, I even tried to buy tickets off of a scalper for the three days in August that I was going to be in San Francisco to no avail. I decided I'd take a chance that they'd release more tickets and put myself on the mailing list. Then...the fateful day had come, they announced that they were going to release more tickets! So I put on an alarm and on that day, I nabbed two tickets for the last weekend in October. I then book two same-day, round trip flight for my boyfriend and I and well...now you know just how I got to go to the Color Factory.

When you first enter, you are given a card with a QR code, which you register on an iPad. Make sure you do this because there are photo stations set up all around and with the card you can prompt these photo stations to take a photo and that photo is then sent to the email you provided. This. Was. Genius. Because, even though I had my camera and my iPhone, it can be annoying to constantly ask someone to take a photo so you two can be in the photo together. Now you can just prompt the booth to start and take as many photos together as you want.

Every room has a color theme. It's really hard to pick my favorite because they were all done so well. From the first room where you got to scratch'n'sniff very specific scents, to the last room filled with a gigantic ball pit filled with yellow balls, every room had it's own charm. Some rooms were about immersion, others about interaction, this place was so well thought out, a treat for all the senses (even taste!). If I had one critique about the whole experience, it would be that I wish the staff were more involved, some rooms they didn’t even ackowledge you, but you never know, maybe they were on their 8th shift in a row, maybe they had to stay up all night for an exam and then come straight to work...I hate judging things when I don’t have the context.

Despite that, this installation has been one of my favorite of all the ones I’ve been to. The sheer volume of some of these rooms, the space you are given to play, you feel like a kid again. I think that’s why these types of places are so popular, n…

Despite that, this installation has been one of my favorite of all the ones I’ve been to. The sheer volume of some of these rooms, the space you are given to play, you feel like a kid again. I think that’s why these types of places are so popular, not just for the Instagram pictures, but because we all are trying to keep that inner child alive and happy.

I’m going to end this here, I still have to write a post about my visit to Yayoi Kusama’s exhibit and Thailand...so I’ll keep this short. In the meantime, please scroll down and enjoy the pictures!
